Located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the remodelling of this classic two bedroom apartment’s involved conserving its classic Haussmannian elements – the moldings and the solid oak herringbone parquet floors – while modernising the high use areas including the living room and kitchen. For architect Martin Massé, his first task involved reflecting on how to create new partitions in the apartment, while maintaining the natural flow and reserving a maximum amount of space for the bedrooms.
In the living room, Massé chose a deep navy blue feature wall to match the custom-made built-in wall units, a place for storing and displaying the family’s mementos. A modern and minimalist green kitchen with a Carrara marble countertop and central island creates a strong contrast to an otherwise, classic environment. In the hallway, the walls, skirting boards and door frames are painted in the same navy blue as the living room, providing a visual link between the different areas of the apartment.
