Designed by the founder of volta, Agathe Lavaud, the Meï cork bench is a modern take on a traditionally humble material. Spanning two metres, the bench’s geometric lines are balanced by the soft roundness of the velvet seat.  Developed in collaboration with Portuguese atelier Trizzano, the stool is made from compressed recycled cork, creating an innovative pattern that mimics the appearance of stone. Renewable and sustainable, cork is harvested from the bark of cork oaks every nine years. Each Meï cork bench is dyed with natural tints and paired with a violet cushion in cotton velvet for a stylish, tonal look. A statement piece that looks equally at home in a dining room or hallway, or to delineate a space.

Graduating in 2014 from Penninghen with a degree in interior design, founder of volta, Agathe Lavaud completed her architecture studies at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in France. Following her experiences at internationally renowned firms including Wilmotte & Associés and Thierry Lemaire Architecture, Lavaud launched her own agency in 2016. Born out of the desire to celebrate the functional, aesthetic and sustainable features of cork, 'Meï' collection marks the young French designer's first edition of furniture.
